Robert Conder was born in Catterick, North Yorkshire, England. His father was an army officer and his mother an occupational therapist. At the age of eighteen Robbie moved to North Wales where after work, spent his time exploring the crags and ridges of the Llanberis Pass. By the time he was twenty-one he had moved to France.
